A
note on Internet buying,
from Daryl Gibson |
Welcome!
Hi. If you've gotten to this space, you've probably come here from one of my websites, or from a search engine where you were inquiring about buying items over the Internet.
Perhaps you're concerned about purchasing goods over the Internet. Maybe you've seen a book that I've referenced, but you're a first-time buyer from Amazon.com.
Don't Worry
Buying over the Internet can be a bit worrisome. You just can't go look the owner in the eye, and decide what kind of person he/she might be. But, nowadays, you rarely get to deal with the owner, anyway. You're most likely dealing with a clerk who couldn't care whether you're a customer or not. I've found buying online to be, for the most part, an exhilarating experience, especially when compared to a know-nothing clerk who doesn't know anything, never will know anything, and talks on the phone the whole time he's ringing up your sale.
A special type of Internet merchant
A good place to get your feet wet in online buying is at my favorite merchant, Amazon.com. Amazon.com's been in business for five years now, and I've been purchasing books, tapes, and assorted other stuff from them since the first year, but when I purchased my first book from Amazon.com, it was the first thing I had ever purchased over the Internet. I was concerned, just like many people are, about the possibility of having my credit card information compromised. I was also concerned about the quality of service I would get "over the Internet." I was used to going into a store, browsing a bit, and looking for what I wanted. If it wasn't there, I would special order it, or more likely, I'd wander off to a different bookstore, or simply purchase whatever they had that was close to what I want.
Extraordinary service
If you purchase items from
Amazon.com,
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. They have an extraordinary way of doing
business. They emphasize service above all. They care about their customers.
They ship rapidly, give great discounts, and they offer Credit
Card Protection for all purchases. They have a liberal Return
Policy.
But you know, even if they didn't offer all those things...even if they weren't
so diligent in keeping customers happy, they'd be a great place to shop.
Why?
Amazing selection
I buy a lot of technical
books; they are not always in stock, even at the so-called "superstores."
Plus, I like older videos, and they're not usually in stock at mass marketers.
At Amazon.com,
it's simple: You can get the books, tapes, and other stuff easily and quickly.
You get items that you won't be able to find at Wal-Mart or your local B. Dalton.
You no longer have to wait two months for special orders, like I always had
to, or settle for something you're not interested in.
Insightful Reviews
But wait there's more! (Does that sound like late-night TV infomercials?) One of the best things about Amazon.com is that most items carry reviews. Do you want to know what the best book on Active Server Pages is? Search by the item you're looking for, then sort it by bestselling, or by highest reviews. These are reviews by people like yourself, who bought the book, tape, video, or software package (not to mention all the other stuff), and then thought enough about it to take time and write the review. These reviews are invaluable. You're not going to get those in the corner bookstore. They can save you a whole bunch of money just by eliminating the bad book, before you buy it!
Are they perfect? Of course
not. But in all the books and stuff I've bought from Amazon
and their partners, only once, in the difficult days just before Christmas,
did I get a wrong order. I sent them an e-mail about it, and the correct item
was delivered the next day, via next-day air, and with no shipping charge. Their
dedication to customer service borders on the fanatical.
We're proud to be an affiliate
I can't say enough good about these guys, and that's why I am so glad to encourage their services, and I'm proud to be able to do it as an Amazon.com associate, through my Salesstar.com site. When you purchase an item from Amazon.com, through one of my links, I get a small percentage of the purchase price, at no additional charge to you. Frankly, my websites depend on that Amazon.com income to keep going. If you would like to help, just go to Amazon.com from one of my links (heaven knows there are enough of them in this document alone), to purchase your items. I appreciate it.
Here are some Amazon links to help you explore the incredible universe of items that they offer, or try the handy search box below.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to drop me a line. I appreciate your time, and thanks for coming to my websites.
